BOROUGH OF HASBROUCK HEIGHTS

M I N U T E S

February 12, 2002

 
A Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights was held on February 12, 2002 at 8 p.m. at the Masonic Hall, 200 Division Avenue, corner of the Boulevard, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey.

Mayor Torre stated that the meeting complied with the Sunshine Law, due notice having been made to all members by personal service on January 1, 2002 and to The Observer, The Record and the Herald News on January 1, 2002.

ROLL CALL: Present: Mayor William J. Torre, Councilman Andrew Link III, Councilman Herbert D. Heeren, Councilman Justin A. DiPisa, Councilman Garrett R. Pepe, Councilwoman Verrastro, Councilman John Wassberg

Absent: None

 

SALUTE TO THE FLAG AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Torre led in the Salute to the Flag and Pledge of Allegiance.

 

COMMUNICATIONS: The following correspondence was received as of this date:

1. 2002 Household Hazardous Waste Management and Disposal Program from the Bergen County Utilities Authority.

2. 2002 Wastewater User Charges from Bergen County Utility Authority.

3. Letter from Cablevision with updated tariffs.

4. Letter from County Executive William "Pat" Schuber regarding an interactive web survey created by the Bergen County Terrorism Task Force.

A motion to waive the reading of any item of correspondence at length into the record and to accept the correspondence and place the same on file, was made by Councilman Pepe, seconded by Councilman DiPisa and unanimously approved. Mayor Torre asked that Item #4 be referred to the Police Committee and that a resolution had been approved recently regarding Item #3.

 

MINUTES: (January 15, 2002)

A motion by Councilman Heeren, seconded by Councilwoman Verrastro, and unanimously accepted, the foregoing Minutes were approved.

 

PETITIONS: None

BILLS:

BE IT RESOLVED that the claims and accounts amounting to $2,081,986.96 specified in the schedule hereto annexed, having been examined and approved by the Finance Commissioner, or his Deputy, be paid and that warrants be issued therefor.

On a motion by Councilman Pepe, seconded by Councilman Wassberg, and unanimously carried, the foregoing Resolution was adopted.

 

CONSENT AGENDA:
31. Raffle License for Corpus Christi Church Rosary Society

32. Raffle License for Concerned Parents Association of Corpus Christi

33. Raffle License for Hasbrouck Heights Junior Woman's Club

On a motion by Councilman DiPisa, seconded by Councilwoman Verrastro, and unanimously accepted, the foregoing Consent Agenda Resolutions were approved. (Copies attached.)

36. Raffle License for Hasbrouck Heights High School

On a motion by Councilman Wassberg, seconded by Councilman Pepe, and unanimously carried, the foregoing Resolutions were approved. (Copies attached.)

RESIGNATIONS: None

 

ORDINANCE (S) ON INTRODUCTION: None

ORDINANCE(S) ON PUBLIC HEARING:

Mayor Torre opened the meeting to the public for anyone wishing to speak on Ordinance No. 1955. There being no one wishing to speak, the public hearing was closed.

ORDINANCE NO. 1955:

BE IT RESOLVED that an ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO FIX THE SALARY AND COMPENSATION OF CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE BOROUGH OF HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY, FOR THE YEAR 2002" be now passed on second and final reading and the Borough Clerk be and is hereby authorized and directed to publish said Ordinance, same to be published in The Observer, a newspaper circulating and published in the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights.

On a motion by Councilman Wassberg, seconded by Councilman DiPisa, and unanimously carried, the foregoing Ordinance on Public Hearing was approved.


MISCELLANEOUS FROM PUBLIC: This being the first meeting of the month, the Mayor dispensed with opening the meeting to the public and said that the meeting would be open to the public on February 26, 2002.

 

RECESS FOR CAUCUS
Mayor Torre announced that the meeting would be recessed for Caucus.

 

ADJOURN:

There being no further business to be conducted by the Mayor and Council, the meeting was adjourned.
