Marie Gallo Honored
By New Jersey Kiwanis

Marie Gallo was honored at the New Jersey Kiwanis District Mid-Winter Conference held at the Double Tree Hotel in Somerset, New Jersey. The Hasbrouck Heights Kiwanis Club was also recognized and received two awards.

Marie received the George F. Hixson Fellowship. She was the only Kiwanian to receive this award at this year’s conference. The award was established in 1983 to build the endowment fund of the Kiwanis International Foundation. A contribution of $1,000 was made in her name to help eliminate iodine deficiency disorders, the world’s leading cause of preventable mental retardation in children. Each contribution of $1,000 will touch the lives of 20,000 children.

Marie has been an active member of the Hasbrouck Heights Kiwanis Club since 1993. She has served as its treasurer for the past six years. She has attended International Conventions, as a delegate, in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Montreal; and District Conventions in Cape May, Hershey, Mt Airy and Mt Vernon.

The Hasbrouck Heights Kiwanis Club received an award for its local single service project, the Rainbow Summer Day Program. Through this project, money is raised locally to send developmentally disabled youngsters to a six-week summer camp.

The local club was also one of four clubs in its division to be given recognition for the activities it performed in its community during the past year. Club secretary Peter Gallo was presented a Certificate of Administrative Excellence in the Silver Section for the performance of his duties.

During the past three months, local members have attended the Lodi Kiwanis Club’s 50th Anniversary Dinner; and the Division’s Brunch Reception for the Kiwanis District Governor. They have also donated money to the NJ Kiwanis District Foundation and to the Children’s Miracle Network. Locally they collected Toys for Tots, contributed to the Friendly Neighbors and will again sponsor a Little League Team.
