HHFD Visits Students During
Fire Prevention Week

The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department visited local schools for Fire Prevention Week, which was held October 7 through 13, 2007.

A brief talk was given about this year’s theme which is, "Practice Your Escape Plan," with special attention to home fire drills just like in school and having at least two escape plans with a meeting place outside the home.

Additionally, Department members reminded children to remind their parents to replace the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

They also reviewed past fire prevention week themes such as stop, drop and roll if they catch fire, calling 9-1-1 if there is an emergency, etc.

Firefighters put on their turnout gear, including Scott air packs and explained the purpose of each component.

The students watched as a team of firefighters climbed the 110 foot ladder and waved at the firefighters when they reached the top.

The children then toured the inside and outside of the fire vehicles.
