New Municipal Complex
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

October 18, 2003

The formal dedication of the Municipal Complex and Senior Citizens Center was held at 320 Boulevard on Saturday afternoon, October 18, 2003.

The program was presented in three segments: Municipal Complex ribbon cutting, Senior Citizen Center ribbon cutting and "Blessing of the Rooms". Light refreshments in the Senior Citizen Center followed.

Mistress of Ceremonies was Councilwoman Marlene Verrastro. There was a Salute to the Flag and Pledge of Allegiance.  Conchita Parker led in singing America.  The Rev. Pickard presented the Invocation.  Mayor William J. Torre provided welcoming remarks.  Councilmen Andrew Link III, Justin A. DiPisa, Herbert D. Heeren, Garrett R. Pepe and John Wassberg each spoke.

Scheduled speakers included: Senator Joseph Coniglio, Assemblywoman and former Mayor Rose Marie Heck, County Clerk Kathleen Donovan, Bergen County Freeholders Valerie Vainieri Huttle & Tomas J Padilla and Bergen County Senior Services Director Anne Ciavaglia.

Upon conclusion of the speakers, several ribbon cuttings took place (Mayor & Council, Mayor & Council w/speakers, etc.) at the buildings main entrance.  At the end on the Municipal Complex formal dedication, the event moved to the Senior Citizen Center entrance for additional ribbon cutting photos.  Once the ribbon was formally cut, it was then cut into pieces and distributed among the seniors for souvenirs.

After the ribbon cuttings, there was a "Blessing of the Rooms" whereby the event moved through each room, a Commissioner made a statement of purpose, and employee or official made a declaration of use and local clergy said a brief prayer.

Local clergy participating included: Rev. Joe Pickard (Church of St. John the Divine), Rev. Katherine Ellison (Church of St. John the Divine), Rev. Karyn Wisemen (First United Methodist Church),  Rev. Edward Glasser (Community United Church of Christ), Rev. Ronald Rotmeyer (First Reformed Church), Rev. Louis Papera (Corpus Christ RC Church), Rev. George Yoder (Holy Trinity Lutheran Church), and Rev. Carol Surachi (Community United Church of Christ).

After the "Blessing of the Rooms", Rev. George Yoder gave the Benediction, and Mayor William J. Torre provided closing remarks.
