Progressive construction photos

After a $10.4 million referendum was passed  in May 1998 by the community, the Board of Education began work on the new additions to Euclid, Linclon and the Jr./Sr. High School on July 1999.  Work was nearly completed September 8, 2000, in time for September 11th school opening.  Here is a photo essay of the project as it unfolded. Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service [Photos by Karen Fels]

A Community Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service was held at 4.p.p.m. on Sunday, November 19 at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church.

Participating in the Thanksgiving Service were clergy and congregations of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, The First Reformed Church, First United Methodist Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, St. John the Diving Episcopal Church and Sion Korean Presbyterian Church.

Additional clergy -- The Rev. Dr. Michael Avila of Sojourners Resource Center and the Rev. Dr. Katherine Ellison of Montclair Protestant Foundation also participated.  The Sion Korean Presbyterian Church and Choir joint the celebration for the first year.

Mayor William Torre delivered a Thanksgiving message.


Santa's Workshop
Santa Claus visited the North Pole Workshop in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ on Sunday, November 19, 2000. Along with his many elves, Santa was available for photos and to talk with children.

Bill O'Shea's Florist  hosted an Open House that included FREE flowers, balloons, live music, prizes, refreshments and a raffle.


Jukebox Radio 103.1FM broadcasted live and provided on-air interviews with Santa Claus as well as visitors to Santa's Workshop.

Temporary facilities were operational late October 2000
On April 11, the Mayor & Council scheduled HHFD to move back to a new temporary structure at old boro hall site. Work was completed and the facilaities were operational late October 2000.  These "temporary Butler" buildings will be re-used by the DPW after the HHFD new quarters are built.

13a.jpg (8247 bytes) Ragamuffin Parade was held Saturday, October 28 at 1 p.m.  It began at the Franklin Gym on Hamilton Avenue and proceeded to the Masonic Hall. Event wasvsponsored by the Mayor's Community Celebrations Committee. [Photos]


Halloween Window Decorating Contest!
During mid-October, the Hasbrouck Heights [Chamber of Commerce] sponsored the 7th Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest in conjunction with the three grammar school PTA’s. Approximately 300 third, fourth and fifth grade students participated.


The children painted a Halloween theme illustration on window spaces that were provided by most Boulevard businesses. Graphics were judged upon originality and artistic expression, winners from each grade received 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Ribbons. All participants received ribbons.

Thousands of area residents enjoyed the bright exciting demonstration of creativity that these youngsters had to offer. [Random selections][Winners]

On Sept. 24 the REACH/Friendly Neighbors Volunteers in town were honored for their community efforts. Started with worship celebration   Sunday @ St. John the Divine, and continued with a luncheon in their honor. [Photos]

Improved Boulevard Clean-up Program Announced
The Boulevard has been swept and litter baskets emptied twice a week. This did not work.  M/C announced that the new schedule is that the Boulevard will be swept on Mondays, Wedesdays and Fridays.  The litter baskets will be emptied on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On the evening of August 25, 2000, the HHFD conducted training exercises in a smoked filled LaSalle Ave. structure.

Mosquito Control Adulticide spraying  took place Thursday, August 17  & Tuesday August 22 between 3 a.m. -- 6 a.m. During spraying neighbors were asked to stay inside, bring in toys and close windows. Quick Facts: Considered a "very low irritant" to the eyes, skin, nose and throat tissue.  Does not damage car paint.  Degrades within four hours in in sunlight.

The Knights of Columbus will hold it's annual pasta dinner on October 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the Corpus Christi Cafeteria.  Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $3 for children.  This includes pasta, Mark Cricco's homade meatballs and sauce, salad, bread and cake/coffee.  Wine and sode will also be served.

Blessing of the Animals was held Sunday, October 8th, with a 10:00 a.m. Service @ St. John the Divine.

On Sunday September 24, 2000 the  installation of officers of both the Bishop O’Connor Assembly #647 and the Msgr. Robert G. Fitzpatrick #7041 took place in the Corpus Christi Chapel at mass celebrated by Father Andrew.
